We Call It Techno! Retrospective DVD arrives next week

In Germany they take their techno very seriously and rightly so - next week a new DVD called ‘We Call It Techno!’ will explore the country’s fascinating early rave and techno culture.

The documentary reveals the early years of techno in Germany with never-before-seen footage of Frankfurt’s first techno clubs the Omen and Dorian Gray, and footage from the first-ever Berlin Love Parade in 1993.

Over its 100 minutes ‘We Call It Techno!’ should provide a electronic music retrospective that might bring a tear to the eye.

Indeed, the preview shown here is very tasteful.

Techno’s DIY ethics is what makes it so solid in Germany (at its core is a group of like-minded individuals who share a passion for music and dance music culture), and the DVD’s producers Holger Wick and Maren Sextro roped in a number of Germany’s foremost techno artists for interviews including DJ Hell, Cosmic Baby, Ata, Mijk van Dijk and Wolfgang Voigt.

For any serious techno fan, ‘We Call It Techno!’ should serve as a call to arms, and provide a base of recognition that we’re all in this together.
