Matias Aguayo [Kompakt]
16 December, 2008 | 10.52PMAlthough Kompakt
has been markedly quieter in 2008 than previous years they’ve had their share of gems, notably in the form of Matias Aguayo’s ‘Minimal’ and its excellent DJ Koze
remix.
This follow-up might not have quite the same far reaching appeal, but for fans of the Aguayo’s taut narco-disco, it’s another treat.
The title track is undoubtedly the biggest offering here, with impassioned, yelping vocals veering into The Rapture-esque punk-funk realms.
Underpinned by an insidiously funky bassline and Aguayo’s patented shuffling percussion, it’s the kind of effortlessly catchy track that will bury its way into your head and stay there until it drives you nuts.
For heavier pleasures, check the wobbling acid pump of ‘Rebodella Style’, or the corkscrew-techno lurch of ‘Carter MSP’, where more abstract, angular moods come to the fore.
