Voting commences for Plug Independent Music Awards

Plug Independent Music Awards have announced nominees for 2008.

Several categories of independent music are covered, including indie, punk, hip hop, electronic and metal.

Nominee nods go out to many artists within the electronic field.

Artists nominated amongst the “Electronic/Dance Album of the Year” include Caribou, Gui Boratto, Chromeo, Matthew Dear, Digitalism, Justice, Modeselektor and Ulrich Schnauss.

Some of the “DJ Album of the Year” nominees include Booka Shade, Ewan Pearson, Henrik Schwarz, Hot Chip, Lee Burridge, M.A.N.D.Y., Prins Thomas and Ricardo Villalobos.

Additionally, Justice is up for several nomination categories, including the general categories of “Album” and “New Artist”, in addition to “Song” (along with Gui Boratto) and “Music Video”.

Crossover acts Battles and Animal Collective are up for “Indie Rock Album”.

El-P is nominated for “Male Artist” and “Hip-Hop Album” — along with Dizzee Rascal.

Not surprisingly, two of the “Record Label” nominees include Ed Banger and Warp.

And to our pleasant surprise, Beatport is one of the nominees for “Online Record Store”.

The awards continue until February 8th, 2008, but you can cast your vote now at the Plug Independent Music Awards website.

For future planning, the PLUG 2008 Independent Music Awards will be held in New York on March 6th, 2008.
