Volcano

Egotrya [People Of The Sky]

Back when Marty McFly was still jamming to Huey Lewis and the News, Beppe Loda and Francesco Boscolo were getting their musical kicks from an altogether different era – the future.

Fitting then, that Volcano should re-enter the public consciousness some 25 years later; bearing testament to their own time travelling capabilities.

The DeLorean is souped-up and smashing down whatever’s left of the space-time continuum on this re-release of Egotrya’s 1984 Italo classic.

This seven minute acid-fuelled trip is given the remix treatment by renowned space cadet John Daly [a] (as well as an additional rework by Loda himself), however it’s still the original that packs the most punch.

Brimming with sounds you know you’ve heard somewhere before, ‘Volcano’ is a reference point for music trainspotters: Daft Punk-ish vocoders, Lindstrom-esque synth-leads, Aeroplane-like arpeggios - you could be forgiven for thinking Loda and Boscolo were a pair of rip-off merchants - the thing is they’re not. They did it first; round about the time when the Clock Tower was first struck by lightning I believe.

“Fire her up, Doc! Let’s go back to the future…”
