Volcano
Egotrya [People Of The Sky]
28 January, 2009 | 7.33PMBack when Marty McFly was still jamming to Huey Lewis and the News, Beppe Loda and Francesco Boscolo were getting their musical kicks from an altogether different era – the future.
Fitting then, that Volcano should re-enter the public consciousness some 25 years later; bearing testament to their own time travelling capabilities.
The DeLorean is souped-up and smashing down whatever’s left of the space-time continuum on this re-release of Egotrya’s 1984 Italo classic.
This seven minute acid-fuelled trip is given the remix treatment by renowned space cadet John Daly
(as well as an additional rework by Loda himself), however it’s still the original that packs the most punch.
Brimming with sounds you know you’ve heard somewhere before, ‘Volcano’ is a reference point for music trainspotters: Daft Punk-ish vocoders, Lindstrom-esque synth-leads, Aeroplane-like arpeggios - you could be forgiven for thinking Loda and Boscolo were a pair of rip-off merchants - the thing is they’re not. They did it first; round about the time when the Clock Tower was first struck by lightning I believe.
“Fire her up, Doc! Let’s go back to the future…”
