Ricardo Villalobos to debut film score for Time Warp

Chilean techno master Ricardo Villalobos [a] will give a world exclusive performance of his score for the silent classic movie ‘Berlin Sinfonie der Großstadt’ as part of this year’s Time Warp festival in Mannheim, Germany.

He produced the score alongside electronic music dignitaries Moritz von Oswald and Max Loderbauer.

On April 1st, Ricardo Villalobos, von Oswald and Loderbauer will perform live their composition in Mannheim’s Atlantis cinema.

The world exclusive unveiling is part of Time Warp’s continued dedication to highlight exciting sound, images and visuals.

Word has it that the three electronic music virtuosos spent some time in February in the studio composing their score, which is so-called a ‘cinemix’ by Time Warp’s organisers.

Last year, French maestro Lauren Garnier performed a cinemix for the French poetic docudrama ‘Finis Terrae’ by Jean Epstein.

It was heralded as an interesting work of art by some critics.

Villalobos and co’s score will be for a 1927 silent film that was made by film maker Walther Ruttmann.

The focus of the movie is believed to be the roaring 1920s of the city, with particular attention paid to the rhythm of Berlin.

So Villalobos, von Oswald and Loderbauer’s rhythmic mastery should accompany it just fine.
