Video: Make techno on your iPhone

Video: Make techno on your iPhone

This week came more proof that the iPhone’s music making capabilities are only going to get better with time. Forthcoming to the iPhone’s App Store is a virtual techno studio that features very accurate emulations of three of the genre’s most important machines: Roland’s TB-303, TR-909 and TR-808 boxes.

And as these three videos show, the user interface of ‘Technobox’ is very useful for laying down patterns quickly.

There are a total of 22 drum sounds with variable amounts of shuffle per pattern (essential for the app to be truly useful for improvisational music creation moments), and a session manager which allows you to load and save sessions in real time without stopping the internal sequencer.

The pattern sequencer allows up to 1000 bars and 24 patterns per session (12 for 303, 12 for 808/909), and everything can be controlled through the phone’s multi-touch screen.

There’s no confirmation of when Technobox will be available in the App Store, but find out more at www.audiorealism.se/technobox/

Here’s another couple of videos demoing the capabilities of ‘Technobox’.
