Dissonanze roundup

In hindsight, Dissonanze was insane whichever way I look at it.

48 hours of intensity - music, alcohol, thousands of thrill seekers - all jammed into one super-technical venue, but was it really any good?

On the Sunday when I woke up and needed to fly back to London, I was a bit of a shell, to tell you the truth.

Partying all night, then working through the day, makes me a dull boy, so it does.

Just at the last second, when I was about to gnash into my steak sandwich to absorb some vital fuel before the plane home, I was told that my taxi was about to leave.

So I bit down hard and cut my mouth on the rock hard crust, which felt so good that I’ve decided to get a tattoo of Desperate Dan eating a cow pie on my ass, in celebration.

What of Rome?

I didn’t see any, but my cameraman got some pictures, which you can see adjourning this text.

Dissonanze reinvigorated my lust for Minimal Techno

That music really was the star of the show, thumping away hypnotically, pushing boundaries and breaking down doors as it oozed from the speakers.

The electro house rocked too, but did get a little repetitive when played for three hours straight (Erol Alkan’s successive DJ didn’t show up, so he kept on plugging away).

That said, Erol played a few mind-blowing enigmas, so when I find clips I will post them.

(Hopefully the tune-scouting geniuses on Beatportal can ID these.)

Dissonanze was a massive success in all - rammed both nights but with enough space on the dance floor so that you never felt suffocated.

The sound system was the best I have ever heard for a one-off event.

Period.

The bass was ridiculous and everything else sounded warm and fat, totally unlike so many of the temporary festivals where the sound and lighting is a slapdash job, set-up by money-hungry cowboys.

I learned a thing or two about blogging as well, so, come the next 48-hour DJ bender, you’ll be all the better informed.

If you hadn’t heard of Dissonanze until now, and you’re a fan of tech house, electro house and minimal, you’re strongly advised to make the effort for Dissonanze ‘09.

The weather will be sweet, the food great and music cutting-edge, varied and new.

See you there.

P.S. Please give props to Industry Boy for surviving a week with M.A.N.D.Y.
