Deadmau5 flies above club crowd

Canadian superstar Deadmau5 [a] took things to the next level during his New Year’s Eve Ministry of Sound set at the O2 Arena in London.

During the live performance of his hit song ‘Ghosts N Stuff’, he flew above the crowd with the help of a harness directly out of the DJ booth to mimic a ghost, as this video shows.

Deadmau5 used a white sheet with two eye holes in it to complete the look, and after a minute of air-time, he slowly descended back into the immersed DJ booth to continue his set.

It is believed to be the first time that any DJ or dance music artist, who are not generally known for their on-stage presence, has done such a thing.

Joel Zimmerman has of course, never been one to shy away from showmanship. The huge mouse head he dons at every gig has become his trademark, for a character that few will dispute has brightened dance music in recent years.

From a string of Beatport No.1 hits, Deadmau5’ worldwide audience has grown dramatically through captivating live performances, speaker-busting electro house anthems, and strong online branding.

He’s now considered one of the biggest, if somewhat controversial, names in dance music.

But what do you think of Deadmau5’ winged moment? Should DJs try to entertain on stage through performances such as this, or should they only been heard, and not seen? Give us your thoughts below.
