Video: Art of Trance ‘Swarm’

Here’s the video for Art of Trance’s phenomenal new single ‘Swarm’, which is one of the most original and unique trance tracks to hit the scene recently.

With its squiggly lead acid line, lack of a giant euphoric breakdown, and understated drums, ‘Swarm’ reminds me of the very early days of trance when deep hypnotism was the main aim of the music.

This is the kind of trance that made me fall in love with the genre all those years ago. No wonder Simon Berry aka Art of Trance took three years to release it!

Berry took his time, and the genre will benefit from his due consideration. It’s amazing to hear a 303 back in trance again and the tribal vocals and repetitive synths are very unusual for a trance track today.

The video for ‘Swarm’ features moving images of groups of animals, birds and insects, and the nod towards Mother Nature is yet another link to the early days of trance, when raves were all about harmony and our place in the world.

I only hope Art of Trance continues to explore this path, and that he inspires other trance producers to experiment as well. Too often people outside of trance dismiss the genre for not being inventive enough, but ‘Swarm’ is a track that even the biggest of trance detractors cannot ignore. Not least, because Telefon Tel Aviv have also remixed the track into a blissful electronica soundscape, which was the last remix the duo did before Charlie Cooper sadly passed away.
