Vestax prove turntable is an instrument
21 June, 2007 | 5.03AMFor years music geeks have argued about whether or not the turntable is a musical instrument, but equipment manufacturer Vestax is set to finish the argument once and for all.
Their new Controller One turntable is a musical instrument for DJs - you can mix and scratch vinyl normally just as you can on a deck, but there are also notes and keys you can hit just like any other instrument.
Controller One gives DJs the power to play vinyl as a musical instrument, and is the result of improving technology and DJs demanding more than just pitch control to control vinyl.
Legendary scratch DJs D-Styles and Ricci Rucker came up with the concept, and Vestax believe their Controller One is so intuitive, they’ve invented a new term - MIDJ (Musical Instruments for DJs).
The above video showcases what the Controller One can do for scratch performers.
