US visa rates: the good news and the bad news
14 December, 2007 | 11.04AM- Section: Music News
Beginning January 1st, the United States will increase its fees for tourist, business and student visas by 31 percent.
Currently, the U.S. visa rate is $100 and will increase to $131; immigrant visas are handled separately with an increase of 6 percent.
This means that for touring DJs, musicians and fans who are making plans to visit Stateside for summer festivals, the cost of visiting the United States may go up slightly.
This is bad news for some, but for the many primarily European countries that are part of a waiver program, their visa rates remain the same — unless the stay is for longer than 90 days.
See a list of the unaffected countries after the jump.
The following countries remain unaffected by the United States visa fee increase due to participating in the waiver program:
Andorra
Australia
Austria
Belgium
Britain
Brunei
Denmark
Finland
France
Germany
Iceland
Ireland
Italy
Japan
Liechtenstein
Luxembourg
Monaco
The Netherlands
New Zealand
Norway
Portugal
San Marino
Singapore
