Unmixed with JES Brieden

Born and raised in New York City, Jes realized at a young age that singing was her passion. While enrolled in Art School, her truly unique vocal style, and range was discovered, and she quickly progressed to working in professional situations. All the while she continued to write and work in friends studios, always making music. While working at a popular recording studio in LA, JES met Mike Olson, and the two formed Gaurdians of the Earth, which was a hit on the very popular Mp3.com, with songs like Starchildren and One Moon Circling. “Starchildren” was released on Paul Van Dyks The Politics Of Dancing series, and through hearing that, Jes began collaborating with more DJ’s like D:fuse and Deepsky, producing tracks like “Living The Dream” and “Ghost” and many others. Ultimately this lead to the collaboration with Gabriel & Dresden (G&D) to form Motorcycle, producing the Billboard..1 Dance Hit “As The Rush Comes”.

CD: Jes, you were born and raised in New York, and while still in your teens you recorded your first song, can you tell us a little about that first song that launched your career?

JES: It was called “Wasted On Your Love” and I didn’t even have a serious boyfriend yet. I always had been making up alot of songs, but it was that one that first got recorded professionally. After I heard it recorded, I was in shock. It was really such a dream to hear it like that and I was so in disbelief after, I never wanted to do anything else. My life since then has been trying to find ways to do it and keep it going.

CD: You delivered the melodious vocals behind the #1 Billboard single ‘As the Rush Comes’ during your term with Gabriel & Dresden (Motorcycle), do you view ‘As the Rush Comes’ as the defining moment of your career?

JES: Well there have been many defining moments in my career but yes, this was one of the ones that really pushed me into the International spotlight. We were very lucky that the song found the right time and place and people really embraced it but there have been many high points such as the tour with Tiesto and being able to put out my solo album DISCONNECT. You continue to define yourself with every song and every album you make but it was a very exciting and thrilling time in my life.

The magic we shared with that song is evident by the continued support by the fans for the song. I sing it in every show and I always love the reaction of the audience when it starts.

CD: The marriage between your vocals and the production skills of G&D was an International acclaim. Speaking on behalf of the dance community, I think a collaborative return between you and the new duo Dresden and Johnston would be a great idea. Any thoughts?

JES: I am always interested in collaborating. I love Dave and we remain friends and we have talked about it. I really like his new creative partner Mikael too. For me it’s always just timing and of course being inspired! I have been relentlessly working on my album for the past year but now I have time to start some new collaborations.

CD: Your rap sheet of collaborations, openings and co-productions resembles the entire lineup at Ultra Music Festival. It includes many great artists ranging from D:Fuse, Gabriel & Dresden, to Tiesto. This year you started working with BT on “The Light In Me” and “Every Other Way”, any memorable experiences you would like to share and can we expect more from you and BT?
JES: It was just such a wonderful time working with BT. He is so much fun and is so easy going. We worked in his beautiful studio like two big kids playing with a box of toys from all over the world that he had collected. It was the perfect place to create, especially with some downtime on the trampoline in between takes as well as some night time, spooky country walks. Very Inspirational! We just released the original versions of “Every Other Way” with remixes on Blackhole and the response so far has been overwhelming. I was lucky enough to sing it with him at ADE at Paradiso. There will also be a music video that will be released very soon. It was BT and I out in the Mohave Desert and we both tweeted the whole time! I would love to continue collaborating with BT. We make great music together.

CD: The single “Every Other Way” is full of energy and again your vocals shine through. Already remixed by Armin Van Buuren; how has fan reaction been to this track?

JES: I get so many great notes and emails about this song! I waited a while for it to come out and I am so excited it’s hit the airwaves. I already have people singing it with me. It has as epic and uplifting feeling. I feel very honored that Armin remixed this song and since the first time he played it on ASOT the fans have showed nothing but support. It was a great experience being able to share the moments making this song with BT and I am so happy it has received support.
