Underworld cancel European tour due to illness
1 November, 2007 | 12.08PM- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
British dance band Underworld, who recently caused a stir in the US after a major tour, have cancelled their upcoming 11 date tour of Europe due to Rick Smith’s ongoing problems with pneumonia.
The band issued this statement on their website http://www.underworldlive.com: “It is with great regret that we have had to pull out of the European leg of the current Underworld tour due to severe illness in the band.
More details will follow, but in the meantime, we appreciate your patience and understanding.”
The group were due to perform at all the major upcoming electronic music festivals including I Love Techno in Belgium.
The canceled tour is just one in a series of unfortunate events that Underworld have experienced in 2007.
In June, Underworld’s Rick Smith was left hospitalised after a gang wielding iron bars, tear gas and baseball bats stormed the Heineken Ejekt festival in Athens, Greece just as the band were due to perform.
