Underworld ‘Born Slippy’: Dance Anthem
7 September, 2007 | 12.13PM‘Drive boy, dog boy, dirty numb angel boy, in the doorway boy, she was a lipstick boy, she was a beautiful boy’ and it continues. We all know the words, meaningless as they are. The point is, that’s the sign of an anthem. If you know all the words, it means the track has been ingrained into your brain.
For most clubbers, the lyrics of Underworld
‘Born Slippy’ are carved on the inside of our skulls.
It’s pounding rhythm and punk style shouting vocals raises spirits.
It is a techno war cry.
Funnily enough though, ‘Born Slippy’ is not what we think it is.
The track that features in the final scene of Danny Boyle’s film Trainspotting, and the one that has been featured on tens of compilation CDs is in fact ‘Born Slippy .NUXX’.
The band admitted they made it as a joke, and originally it was featured on the B side of ‘Born Slippy’ which is actually an instrumental track.
Whilst the tale of ‘Born Slippy’ is indeed slippery, there is no disputing the fact that the track is a dance anthem.
