Two Of Us
Supermayer [Kompakt]
17 December, 2007 | 3.11PM- Section: Music Recommendations
Michael Mayer and Superpitcher’s album, ‘Supermayer Save The World’, has divided their fans with its bold voyages into folk, disco and ambient, but most listeners seem to agree that this roaring monster is the album’s dancefloor highlight.
First aired at Sonar earlier this year, ‘Two Of Us’ is, like all the best minimal techno, simply formed but devastatingly delivered.
A searing, growling bass pulse chews its way past a thumping kick, before giving way to a spookily nursery-like glockenspiel melody.
Flanked by an endlessly building tirade of sirens and horns, it’s the kind of ragged, unpretentious thing that Komapkt’s Speicher series has become renowned for.
Regardless of your take on the rest of the album, chances are you’ll be pummeling the air with your fists when you hear it out.
Remix action comes courtesy of the pair’s Cologne buddy Geiger, who starts out relatively gently with a minor chord pad and a buzzy, minimal drum loop before morphing into an acid fried, mutant disco thumper of the highest order.
With so much techno now seeming over-nuanced and devoid of real power, you can rely on SuperMayer to turn the tables and deliver raging, dramatic goodness like this.
