Where do you start with the Chicago based Johnny Fiasco?

He’s a prolific producer who is name checked regularly as an influence to many A list DJs producers started out releasing on the legendary Trax label before progressing to work with record labels like Cajmere’s Cajual label.

Calling Fiasco’s style simply house music is limiting — it’s techy, it’s hard, it’s disco, it’s vocally, and it’s all of the above.

The spectrum is wide, and his trademark jazzy keys and funky flowing beats mark out his releases — you know it’s Johnny Fiasco immediately.

His latest EP on Control Recordings showcases four shades of the Fiasco funk.

‘Go Deep’ is a groovy early hours vibe with jazzy keys, popping percussion and bright hats.

‘Hijacked’ has a dark edge with moody pads, shuffling toms and groovy acid riff.

‘The Message’ returns to more traditional four four house beats with a shimmering keys and a old skool flavoured filtered bassline.

The pick of the EP is ‘My House’ for a marriage of kicking Fiasco beats covered with shiny hats and a deep synth stabs that lay the foundation.

Add in a jackin’ vocal and a high string for an acid line to ride off and this is Johnny at his finest.
