remix series strikes dancefloor gold with this slamming pair of reworks.
Marek Hemman takes on Dusty Kid’s ‘Kore’, tweaking the snagging groove to its max, looping an ominous vocodered voice to infinity and performing that most tricky of tasks – making a saxophone sound good in a techno track.
Bristling with menace but suffused with a Latin sexiness often missing in techno’s dour climes, it’s evidence of Hemman’s sharp dancefloor prowess, and of his fruition from fringe player minimalist to centre stage producer of considerable note.
Even better is Paul Nazca’s relentlessly thrumming rework of Eyerer and Rios’s ‘Chorizo’, a proper balls-out anthem for the height of the night.
A relentlessly thrumming plucked bass groove and pin-sharp snares propel a dramatic arrangement ahead at full pelt, before engaging on the kind of big-room breakdown that will have crowds booming with appreciation.
It’s the kind of thing that could easily sound overblown, but thankfully Nazca gets the drama level just right – fans of Dominik Eulberg, Gabriel Ananda, and Paul Kalkbrenner should check immediately.
