Trouble Within Remixes Part 2: Drumpoet Mixes

turned a few heads with the release of his long player in late 2006, ‘Trouble Within’.
Drawing comparisons with luminaries such as Metro Area and Chicken Lips, it landed the softly voiced artist well and truly on the map.
This release is the second remix package to be taken from the album’s output, and the honours are handed to two artists from the Drumpoet collective out of Switzerland.
The Quarion Remix of ‘May I?’ is a cavernous slab of subterranean house.
It provides the perfect introduction to any set; Jamie’s haunting vocal is spliced and echoed into a by-product which is soothing and nervous in equal measures.
Flanged rave stabs suddenly kick in and the arrangement steps up a notch.
Quarion intensifies the already intense atmosphere by slipping in menacing organ chords and an intoxifying riff which work well with the incredibly low sub.
This is a killer piece of music.
Soultourist enter stage left as they remix ‘You In or Out?’.
Like their fellow Drumpoet, they opt to chop up Jamie’s vocal but there the similarities end.
Carrying on from where they left off with their outstanding ‘Turn It Loose’ earlier in the year, Soultourist launch into a full on jazz explosion.
Processed hammond and rhodes chords mingle with claps and shimmering cymbals, creating a heady mix to get the party started.
All in all, a solid release for a group of artists with a strong future ahead of them.
