Track Of The Day: Sines - Money Girl

Houston’s Leroy Bella has been operating behind the scenes for a couple of years, running the Formant Recordings label which introduced Xxxy, Hyetal and XI to the heads before they began to forge their own individual paths. As the artist Sines, Bella incorporates as much of the now-borderless “bass music” as do the three aforementioned artists, but he makes the sound his own by grounding it in the distinct sonics of the Deep South.

“Money Girl” is unapologetically seedy - check the image! - with repeated entreaties, chopped-n-screwed style, to “come to VIP and get a champagne shower.” It is, however, also undeniably fun, mixing up neon synths à la Night Slugs, Hud Mo, and skweee with a grill-mouthed crunk swagger. Blasts of synthetic horns, a one-finger keyboard progression, chattering hi-hats and a grimy guttah drawl are featured over a half-step beat, creating a standout track which is bound to appeal to DJs spread across bass, dubstep and hip hop.
