Track Of The Day: Museum - Afraid
24 January, 2012 | 4.15AMArnaud Rebotini has championed what he once famously described as “frozen Balearic gay biker house” for over a decade, as the leader of pitch-black electroclash outfit Blackstrobe. So it makes sense that, even though the glory days of the sound are over, any new artists affiliated with his Blackstrobe Records imprint would be torchbearers of that particular type of ice-cold Gallic cool. The best way to do that? Keep it in the family. Enter Blackstrobe guitarist Mathieu Zub, under his new solo alias Museum.
The self-taught bassist is relatively fairly new to synthesizers and dancefloors, having discovered dance music when he joined the band in 2007, but he’s more than made up for lost time, producing an EP, Debut, that sounds like it originates from someone who has been steeped in sci-fi soundtracks, cold wave and EBM for most of his life. ”Afraid” is the standout on the EP, and it recalls the golden days of robotic electroclash as well as more vintage tones of electro disco and house. Check the player below for samples of the entire Debut EP, and click through to hear more of Museum’s other tracks.
