Beatportal fave Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts is a master of organic techno funk, the kind of warm, body-wobbling deep house and tech house that only a live band could create.

Except he’s just one man - Gabriel Coutu Dumont, a multi-talented percussionist-turned-producer who one day decided to turn his hand to techno and now he owns it.

His new remix of Sety ‘Mogane’ (on ‘Sweet & Sour’) is exactly the kind of sexy, groovy tech house that gets me excited.

The track is on Circus Company, one of the coolest labels in techno - there’s a French connection here as Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts is from Montreal and Circus Company is from the land of croissants and Champagne.

At the heart of Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts’ remix of Sety ‘Mogane’ is an incessant bongo rhythm that harks back to Gabriel Coutu Dumont’s former days as a student of Latin and classical percussion.

Guillaume treats all of the elements in his music as percussion (and that’s what makes his music so infectious) - the bassline of ‘Mogane’ constantly changes to create a wonderful loop of funk and soul whilst a male vocal (it could be female) shouts something indistinguishable in a James Brown kind-of-way.

If techno was porn, Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts would be top shelf - reserved for those who had reached an acquired and mature taste.
