Top Track: Laurent Garnier ‘Back To My Roots’ EP
28 May, 2008 | 2.32PMAfter Beatportal’s scoop in April about Laurent Garnier’s much anticipated first dancefloor-focused EP in five years, it’s exciting to be able to finally hear Monsieur Garnier’s ‘Back To My Roots’ EP.
The EP has been released on Dixon’s Innervisions![[a]](http://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif)
label, a meeting which came about during a particularly memorable Laurent Garnier
set at Berlin’s Panorama Bar in February.
To cut a long story short, Garnier dropped ‘Back To My Roots’ at about 6am and Dixon pissed his pants, begging to release it on Innervisions.
Dixon plied the Frenchman with croissants, got him to sign on the dotted line and finally the EP has been released, complete with the ‘Panoramix’ (which is a more kicking techno version) and ‘Panoramix (Short Version)’ which is, as the name suggests, a bit shorter.
The lead track ‘Back To My Roots’ has a real acid jazz feel to it, and features a tremendous amount of funk and live percussion - it’s jazzy breakbeats infused with tech house, basically.
‘Panoramix’ is a darker, more intense techno version, and both tracks prove that Laurent Garnier still knows how to make quality dancefloor music.
