Top Track: ‘Disco Dodo’

Lynx [Creative Source]

It maybe one year from this track’s release date, but what we have here is a timeless record - a track that will go down in history; a seminal piece of work that will in no doubt, never grow old.

Its beauty lies deep within its simplicity and uniqueness.

It stands apart from its drum & bass contemporaries with its almost 4/4 techno beat structure.

Lacking from this drum & bass track are the triplet breakbeats, the vocals, the pad-based synth sounds.

Added are one simple bass pattern and a horn sample build up.

The production is transparent, and every element on the track is clearly audible.

When listening to the record being played at proper volume the kick is extremely powerful, and the record’s strongest feature.

You know when you have a big record when it manages to break down the boundaries of musical genres, and this track does this also.

Not only was this record rinsed by everyone in the drum & bass scene from Andy C to High Contrast, but it was also played out by the likes of Amon Tobin among others.

The biggest drum & bass record in 2007 by far, but also described by Fabio as being the most important drum & bass record in the past four years. Lynx has now joined the Soul:R camp and is in the process of his first studio album.
