put out some cool gnarly techno a few years back, with a sound that sat between the raucous playfulness of Alter Ego and the big-rig thump of straight European techno.
But it seems they’ve developed more minimal tendencies of late, with this unpretentious groover from newcomer Daniel Steinberg
offering a considerably less aggressive dose of dancefloor fun.
Working a toy-town bassline below a female vocal sample that’s apparently lifted from a 1920s jazz record, ‘Too Much Love’ certainly isn’t for those who take their tech house too seriously, but its bumping rhythms and infectious charm are hard to resist.
Heinrichs & Hirtenfellner’s remix inserts dry Berlin beats and warm pads, which for the first half of the track, give a deeper feel to proceedings.
Stripped back but touched up with some spacey synth flickers, it seems at first to be a functional, but ultimately unremarkable techy filler.
Once the vocal starts creeping in, though, things take a different, more emotive direction.
Again, the Moby-goes-minimal vibe will put off many, but that’s their loss.
Like the shimmering sun of a brisk autumn morning, its melancholy, understated prettiness is a joy to behold.
