Too Late / Human Poison

Bungle [Critical]

Bungle [a] has at last come forth from DJ Marky’s shadow to establish himself as one of the drum & bass scene’s best producers and DJs.

‘Too Late’ is a distinctly un-Brazilian sounding record, with its lack of salsa vibes and musical elements.

It’s an unexpectedly dark, funky production, with a huge, moving bassline and tight, well-edited drums.

The percussion has a slight phasing effect on it, which adds a sense of movement to the proceedings.

The bassline filters down as the track progresses, and turns all flobbery (how’s that for an onomatopoeia?) before layering up with even cooler sounds.

It’s well-produced stuff and a very good dancefloor record in its entirety.

Moving onto ‘Human Poison’, this sounds exactly how its name suggests – like a soundtrack for a movie scene that depicts someone in a desperate struggle to survive a deadly poisoning.

It makes you think of a crazy scientist in a dark, empty lab fumbling about his workspace – knocking stuff all over the floor and creating a hideous mess – searching for the antidote to the death juice he’s just ingested.

This is pure class – like a mix of Noisia, Ed Rush and Optical and Universal Project all in one.

‘Human Poison’ shows a fine appreciation of dark drum ‘n’ bass.
