Tomiie keeps up SAW with ‘Solar Wind’

After dozens of releases, a handful of acclaimed artist albums and more years than most in this business, Satoshi Tomiie’s Saw Recordings [l] label is one you can buy blind.

Admittedly their sound of minimal stripped down house with a darkly deep and progressive side might not be to everyone’s liking, but to their fans (who number many), it’s one of the strongest labels out there that aid fuel sets from Deep Dish and Carl Cox through to John Digweed and Steve Lawler.

For ‘Solar Wind’, their latest release, the label’s head honcho returns to the studio to create a record rich with hypnotic charm and minimal vocal hooks.

The well thought out, head-swimmingly elaborate sound collage could quite easily be subtitled “music for grown ups”, as everything about the production, arrangement and mixes (the latter courtesy of French supremeo DJ Yellow and Italian Luca Bacchetti) are perfectly well established.

The bassline and synth flurries blend with ease to create a smooth backdrop, atop which sits a series of filters and squelches to reinforce the jittery rhythms and trippy vocal.
