Tokyo’s much loved Sunday evening party Gallery celebrates its 10th year
30 July, 2008 | 9.41PMTokyo’s bimonthly celebration of music and dance, ‘Sunday Afternoon Session Gallery’ is having its 10th Anniversary party this Sunday, August 3.
Hosted by four experienced local DJs - DJ Nori, DJ Fukuba, Alex From Tokyo (of Tokyo Black Star, now based in NYC), and Kenji Hasegawa, all experts in creating a hearty and friendly party atmosphere, are sure to make this Sunday a very memorable one.
This Sunday evening dance has been providing a special space and time for people of all ages and all groups - from kids to grannies, from old school disco dancers to young house heads, from visitors to regulars - everybody is equally welcomed to enjoy the music freely as you like.
Although I personally have never been to NYC’s legendary dance party The Loft, I have heard many stories from the people who have.
And I believe that Gallery (I assume is named after Nicky Siano’s historical club in the ‘70s also inspired by The Loft) is the closest Japanese version that shares the same vision.
So it makes sense that the Gallery crew have hosted parties for David Mancuso himself many times in the past, as well as for Nicky Siano.
The event takes place at not an ordinary club, but a restaurant bar called Eats and Meets Cay located in a posh Omotesando/ Aoyama area, which transforms itself into a dance room only on those special occasions. (They usually run as a stylish Asian cuisine restaurant bar, and serves very good food too!)
If you haven’t been to Gallery yet, it is one of the few (if not the only one) parties I can recommend to go to everybody and anybody.
Experience it for yourself and expect to see lots of balloons, enthusiastic dancers, and many many big smiles!
