‘Tiny Dancer’ returns
22 February, 2008 | 2.54PM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
From the Effin Records label that has already given us a handful of great records from the likes of The Scumfrog, Chocolate Puma, Carl Kennedy and Cevin Fisher, comes perhaps their biggest yet.
‘Tiny Dancer’ by Marco Denmark featuring Casey Barnes has all the right ingredients to become not only this year’s ‘Ride The Storm’, but could well crossover into the pop charts in the process too.
This street-smart remake of an old Elton John single from 1980 opens out into lush mid-tempo beats overlaid with graceful strummed acoustic guitar and washes of synthetic strings, in what almost sounds like the cinematic opening theme to a French movie about doomed lovers.
There are more mixes here then you could also ever need (one of the good/bad things about digital downloads) from the likes of big hitters Moto Blanco and man-of-the-moment Deadmau5 (on a rare musical tip).
Ben Macklin and John Dahlback get in on the electro house tip.
Elsewhere, the addition of mixes by Andy F, The Camel Riders, Craig Obey vs. Rob Kay and Greg Downey will find takers, but for me, it’s the subtlety of the Original — a beautiful sparse love song sung over gentle acoustic guitar with an electro beat foundation.
It’s also the commercial dance appeal of Moto Blanco that make this record come to life.
