Timo Maas interview :: Mixmag Xmas Afterparty
Timo Maas interview :: Mixmag Xmas Afterparty
18 November, 2008 | 4.33AMAs every Mixmag reader knows, it’s all about the afterparty.
And when your actual party has a line-up that includes Justice, Timo Maas, Chase & Status, Frankmusic live and more, the afterparty has to be something special.
We caught up with Timo ahead of the gig....
So we’ve turned to the experts. Helming rooms in the Egg rave warren after Mixmag’s Christmas Party on 5th December are Leeds party outlaws Ketaloco, fresh from a summer throwing amazing raves at the abandoned zoo in Ibiza, London’s undead dawn chasers Zombies Ate My Brain, the Egg’s own Always Fridays and underground techno and electro night Maximalism. Oh and the incredible Timo Maas and Santos will also be staying on after the main event to make sure that you remember the Mixmag mission statement: Bed is the enemy.
Tickets are available from www.clubtickets.com
NOTE: Please get them early as they will sell out.
We caught up with the main man Timo Mass to find out what he has been up to lately......
1. You have been DJing from a very young age and built up your profile over a lot of years of hard work, at what point did you start to realise you had made it?
I actually have the impression, I never “made it”…as soon, u have this impression, I think…u lost it then!
2. In your experience, how or what do you think is the best way to break through into DJing?
I come from a completly different time really… but basically, never copy anybody, do your own style, produce (!!!) and believe in yourself, being different than the others
3. How do you find the clubbing scene differs in different countries? Which is your favourite to play and why?
The mentality is different, but the general intention is the same, no matter where or what language the people speak!
4. You have played at some incredible venues over the years, where and when has been your most memorable gig? And where has been most memorable to party?
Really too many to mention…but the best parties I had around 02/03 in Miami at Crobar and surely at DC10….and …and…and…. J
5. What records or artists are you still playing now that you were playing in your early years?
Cral Craig, Kenny Hawkes, Ritchie Hawtin, Rick Astley…. (joking J )
6. What has been the ultimate highlight of 2008 for you, both as a DJ and as a follower of the clubbing scene?
US-Election and Obamas win is THE highlight in general!
7. Which of your fellow DJ’s inspire you most? Who is your ultimate influence?
I don`t have the “ultimate” hero…but I do respect for example (many times said) good old Carl Cox for his love and passion and personality!
There`s loads of “new” guys around, but its not too many really, that blow my mind with their sets….
8. You have an upcoming gig at the Mixmag Christmas Party, are you looking forward to this? What can we expect to hear from you?
Yes mate…big time! U can expect loads of new music, which I`m producing with Santos at the moment! Watch out!!!!
9. What do you have in the pipeline for the next year? Any protégés or new productions we should be looking out for?
Many, many, many….few protégées, more new production, new projects ….and surely new album soon!
