Nick Holder [NRK]
12 February, 2008 | 4.29AM- Section: Music Recommendations
Nick Holder really is a one man music making machine.
After so many years at a mixing desk, the Canadian supremo can still roll out tune after tune and keep listeners guessing, as he does on ‘Time’, his latest foray in the lead up to the release of his anticipated album.
Lovers of Holder’s brand of sunshine fueled house will be surprised by the direction of ‘Time’.
Don’t be too alarmed — the sun kissed vibes are still ever present and the marriage of mid afternoon vocals and well crafted arpegiated jazzy chords will have you forgetting hose pesky winter blues.
It’s the appearance of a thick two-step beat reminiscent of late 1990s soulful UK Garage which makes this so different and oh so appealing.
An instrumental is thrown in to give accapella junkies a nice canvas to work with.
If the Original Mix is aimed at the bars, then the Six Series Dub is directed squarely at the club.
Faya Combo style percussion replaces the two-step grind and moody chords give Sacha’s vocals a lithe seductive twist.
Expect to hear this in sets by the likes of Ame.
All in all this is a very refreshing package.
Roll on the album!
