Thizzle / China Gum
Thizzle / China Gum
Riva Starr [Front Room Recordings]
26 October, 2007 | 1.21PMThis is a very interesting release that Beatportal strongly recommends you check out.
New boy on the block, Riva Starr
, drops his first EP on Jesse Rose’s Front Room Recordings
— not bad going for openers.
Riva Starr (AKA Madox) describes himself as “born in a junkyard, as legend has it, out of a fusion between a 1973 Ford Capri and a Memory Moog”.
Not much more info is known about this producer expect that “…I’m usually a safe guy – but if u touch my knobs you can expect me to crack your skull open…,” and that his first two releases are on FrontRoom and Dirty Bird — plus there’s a remix of John Aquaviva’s new single in the pipeline.
‘China Gum’ is a wibbly wobbly house exploration into analogue sounds.
The beat is driven by a clipped snare and the groove rides with a 808 bassline that layers into a synth riff whilst heavily echoing percussion stabs and Pacman acid blips fly in and out!
‘Thizzle’ is a more deep rooted affair with a jackin’ Chicago inspired bassline melody and a siren riff with shuffling whistles and cowbells pushing the percussion along.
Riva Starr is a definitely a name for the future, especially if he continues to release this calibre of music.
