This week in house music
27 September, 2007 | 3.49PM- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
A busy week in house music with releases from around the globe. New music from MYNC vs. Carl Kennedy, Syke n’ Sugarstar sample and crossover, Stardust is redone plus lots of other news in the world of house.
MYNC vs. Carl Kennedy feat. Roachford ‘Ride the Storm’ on Effin Records
In a discussion with Roger Sanchez, Pete Tong said of the cut, “Life is beautiful when you find records like this”.
Tong continued, “It’s an emotional summer anthem with an uplifting vocal by Roachford. Definitely one for Pacha!”
The highly controversial track receives a proper release with a solid mix package.
Beatport has the exclusive mixes from Femi Kuti and Legz, Johnny Fiasco, John Made, Beatchuggers, Carl Kennedy, RLS and Kaz James of Bodyrocker’s fame.
The track stems from the 1994 Roachford LP ‘Permanent Shade of Blue’, in which Kennedy found redemption in the track and gave it that house anthem vibe.
MYNC Effin, CR2, Pacha, Wasted Youth Music and Gut combined their efforts to deliver a track that has the marks of a classic all over it.
A release on Gut Records for the UK territory will soon follow along with additional mixes from Danny Howells, Rob Da Bank, Chris Coco and Alex Gaudino.
Samples and mixes that work
Syke n’ Sugarstar, under the moniker SE:SA, lay down vocals from Sharon Phillips and add to their original instrumental ‘Bonistair’ which was a popular WMC 2007.
The track cuts up a lick from (can you guess the sample?) ‘Like This Like That’ on Vendetta and is destined for massive crossover hit.
Also following similar suit is the Syke n’ Sugarstar ‘Danz’ (Devotion), which is not as much of a commercial party record as a funky big room production with slammin mixes from Jerry Ropero, Peter Gelderblom, So Phat! and Remix Therapy.
The hook says it all: ’Don’t Let the Music Die’.
Stardust gets better and brighter
DJ Wady along with Patrick M have cut up the Daft Punk/Stardust classic and dropped a well done vocal cover of ‘Music Sounds Better With You’.
This funky track has rocketed to the top of the Beatport charts and revitalizes one of the legendary house records of all time…that never went away.
‘Let It Go’ Goes to the Top
Axtone releases ‘Let It Go’ by Dirty South feat. Rudy, and it’s a Pete Tong Essential Selection four times over!
There are two wicked mixes; an electro groover mix and a housey floor stomper from Axwell rounds out this package (a Beatport Exclusive).
Brief Bits from the House Floor
Funk D’Void nails a stellar deep mix of Blaze’s ‘Lovelee Dae’ on OM records — another Beatport Exclusive not to miss!
A&M releases ‘Say What You Want (Baleric Soul Mix)’ from House Foundation, an uplifting vocal laid on a tuff grinding groove.
Nervous Records releases Mischa Daniels feat. Tash ‘Round and Round’ for North America with a rockin remix from Tom Novy and Isma-ae.
Previously unreleased remixes of Jakatta’s ‘Shimmering Stars’ are out on Z Records, as well as Joey Negro’s ‘Essential Acappellas Vol.1’.
The exclusive Dave Spoon mix of ‘Latronica’ continues to chug down the line in the house chart, and is currently at Number 14.
OM Records artist Samantha James sees the release of her album ‘Rise’ and the single ‘Deep Surprise’.
The first of the ‘Deep Surprise’ remixes is by Miguel Migs, which comes from an album that boasts several essential tracks and is nothing short of amazing.
