This man wants to bomb you, kinda.

This man wants to bomb you, kinda.

Bomb. Arab. Devastation. Three words that are likely to cause panic when dropped into a newspaper headline these days.

When used in dance music, the headline takes on a whole different meaning, as dance music terrorist Saeed Younan [a] proves via his new single ‘Kumbalha’, which literally means ‘bomb’ in Arabic.

With Mark Knight having included ‘Kumbalha’ on his forthcoming Toolroom Knights CD and support coming from Steve Lawler and DJ Vibe, Younan’s ‘Kumbalha’ is quickly becoming a weapon of choice for mainroom-facing DJs.

Beatportal grabbed Saeed Younan for 10 quick-fire questions.

Do you dance?

I do all the time in the DJ booth, while I play.

What does ‘Kumbalha’ mean?

Kumbalha means ‘bomb’ in Arabic. No pun intended.

Who’s supporting ‘Kumbalha’?

Everyone from Mark Knight, Steve Lawler, Tom Novy, DJ Vibe and Chus &
Ceballos.

‘Kumbalha’ has just been licensed to Mark Knight’s new mix album coming out next month.

Do you consider yourself a DJ first and producer second or the opposite?

I’m a DJ first, because I probably would never have started producing if it wasn’t for DJing.

If you could give an aspiring DJ or producer your best advice, what would it be?

Don’t follow musical trends or chase after what’s hot at the moment.

Be original, and true to yourself.

What’s the vision of your label Younan Music?

The same vision we’ve had from day one. to give new artists an avenue to release music on a label that understands how the new music market works.

What remixes or original productions are you most proud of right now?

I’m proud of all my work. I don’t release anything unless I’m 110% happy with it.

But I must say, I’m particularly proud of ‘Kumbalha’ as it’s getting some great response from top tier DJs and dancefloors.

How would you describe your sound?

I started out as a tribal DJ. But now my sounds have evolved into a fusion of groove-driven percussive beats, and elements of tech and progressive house.

To me, it’s all about the deep groove and sexiness of a track.

What are you working on at the moment?

I have just finished a remix of Sergio Fernandez’ track ‘Sarkis’ coming out on Baroque Records.

I’m also working on my mixed album ‘Spotlight2’ which will be out later this summer.

What else are you working on?

I’m currently collaborating on a track with DJ Chus, and DJ Wady.

I’m also working closely with some of my label artists and doing remixes of their tracks to help push the artist name and their singles.
