The Sonic Destroyer returns to The End

The legendary Jeff Mills [a] makes a welcome return to The End after almost a two year absence. In these democratic times, when music is available to download at the touch of a button and every other man and his dog has a pair of Pioneer CDJ 1000s, the days of the superstar DJ are long gone.

There are a few names in the business, however, that can still inspire in even the most cynical and jaded clubber, a slight feeling of awe and a twinge of butterflies in the stomach.

It’s fair to say that Jeff Mills is one of these. Heck – the man has even been immortalised in cockney rhyming slang for gawd’s sake!

From his role in setting up the near-mythical Underground Resistance with ‘Mad’ Mike Banks and Robert ‘Nosie’ Hood, to his recording contract with the seminal Tresor label, his residency at New York’s Limelight club, and more recently fusing techno and classical by recreating some of his most famous tracks with the Montpellier Philharmonic Orchestra, he has consistently broken boundaries and set the standards for techno.

Jeff Mills plays techno in its purest form - raw, powerful and completely overwhelming – it gets you right at your core.

He infuses stripped down sounds with such energy and emotion – the thundering basslines roar down upon you one minute, only to be pulled back when you least expect it, before he unleashes the music on you again with twice as much force as before.

If you only ever see one DJ before you die, Jeff Mills would be a good bet.

On Saturday 8th September Jeff Mills makes a welcome return to The End for the first time in almost 2 years, joined in the main room by innovative Brazilian DJ and producer Anderson Noise, whilst Luke Soloman’s Little Creatures residency continues upstairs in AKA.
