The Smoker
Shimon, Sparfunk [Audio Porn]

The classily-titled Audio Porn record label spurts back into life with two sexual cuts from Shimon and the ex-Moving Fusion member Sparfunk.
‘The Smoker’ could be inspired by Shimon’s collapsed lung – a condition that’s afflicted him for a while now.
“Well well! You’ve given up smoking!” says the freaky movie sample in the track over a half-time breakdown that serves to hype up the crowd.
This bouncy roller features wailing, ethnic horns and vocals on its build up, plus a writhing bassline as fat as you like.
Watch out for weird, syncopated percussion on the off beat and build-up synths reminiscent of DJ Fresh’s best from ‘Planet Dust’ and ‘Hornet’.
This is an example of underground drum & bass at its finest – engineered tightly for your listening pleasure.
‘In The Shine’ is a more epic-styled production, with a cute break composed of kicks rattling on the 32s.
The pads and glistening effects in this badboy really are the traits of two top producers – it goes without saying that you couldn’t just buy the latest synth plug-in and cook these samples up without many years of experience behind you.
The main synths in the track are brilliant to hear – they scream out of the speakers like some sort of technological disco banshee.
The grit and dirt applied to the bassline on ‘In The Shine’ is the business too – something that Shimon has proved very apt at concocting, as is the case with his horrendous ‘Tudor Rose’ remix.
