The Scorpion

Joey Beltram [Drumcode]

New York-based producer Joey Beltram [a] rose to international prominence with his famous “Ecstasy, ecstasy” whispering track ‘Energy Flash’ (1990), and the warped hoover sounds of ‘Mentasm’, but his output in the digital age has been fairly low-key.

‘The Scorpion’ sees Beltram return to what he does best: drifting bass-heavy techno and evil synthesized nastiness.

Out on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode [l] imprint, ‘The Scorpion’ is easily Beltram’s best track of recent times and thanks to its monstrous breakdown it will destroy any dancefloor that likes things hard and dark.

The more stark minimal offering of ‘Striking Distance’ on the flip is also worth checking out for its melodic mood swings.
