The Roof Is On Fire / Dreadlock
Future Prophecies [Breakbeat Kaos]
3 January, 2008 | 7.21PMJudging by this release, Future Prophecies
sound has veered away from what they originally became famous for – cinematic, sweeping, filthy soundscapes.
They have traded this movie-like edge for a more universally appealing wobbly, rave style.
And you can’t miss this one in a club – its lead line is so distinct that you could pick it out waiting in the queue outside.
The excellent, echoey ‘THE ROOF IS ON FIIRRREE’ vocal by MC Dynamite gives the track its name and instils it with a strong sense of character.
What separates this release from all the other ravey-type ones is Future Prophecy’s signature sounds have made the transition to their modern sound.
Speaking of modern sounds, Future Prophecies’ relick of their famous ‘Dreadlock’ really does show how far they’ve come in recent times.
This towers a great height over the original in terms of production.
For an example, just listen to their masterful use of the stereo field along with their tight drum loops and deadly automation tricks.
Watch out for some cool beatboxing too – another feather to their production bow – and something which sums up the forward-thinking vibe of this cool song.
