The National Fanfare of Kadebostany: Kazak Rules

The members of The National Fanfare of Kadebostany don’t carry typical passports. Based in Switzerland, and featuring players from Romania, Kazakhstan, Russia and Poland, the group represents the Kadebostany Republic—a small nation, and probably an imaginary one, if not to its members. Its founder and bandleader is Kadebostan himself, a multi-culti mischief-maker who previously recorded border-hopping singles like “Caracas Soul,” “Vodka Wedding” and “The Souk” for Fenou and Freude Am Tanzen; the full ensemble came together at the Minsk, Belarus edition of the Unsound festival, in a drunken meeting of violin, cello, accordion, saxophone, guitar, banjo, laptop, and even bassoon.

They recently released a clever, semi-racy new video for their the song “Kazak Rules,” off their album Songs from Kadebostany, released earlier this year on Mental Groove. We suspect you’re going to want to visit.

Check out the group’s website and Facebook page for more information, including a special promotion: “Special prices for weddings and/or funerals!”
