Following Abstract Butta Fingas, Alcendor and NSOK, Foniks is the fourth member of the infamous 5Signs crew to join Filter. The online community has been drooling over the video clips of his MPC performances for some time and loyal fans are following him wherever he performs. Selections V.1 is an attempt to capture the energy of his live performances and it proves to be a complete success. From the opening beats of the first song it is clear that DJ Shadow is a strong influence, but Foniks offers an even broader spectrum of moods, atmospheres and styles. Ranging from hip-hop through mambo, funk, surf-rock, trip-hop and electronica, the sound of Selections V.1 is hard to explain, but so addictive to explore. The album goes from strength to strength, whirling effortlessly like the most pleasant roller coaster you have ever wanted to ride on.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Half man, half vinyl junkie, half chef, half artist, half machine, Foniks is a math problem that doesn’t quite add up. A DJ/Producer residing in Los Angeles, he specializes in sonic deliciousness on both the turntables and the MPC. Soaking in the frequencies of Califas and transmitting them to thirsty earholes across the land, Foniks is puttin’ in work with his hands.
