The Get Physical tour begins prematurely
4 May, 2008 | 5.33PM- Section: Music News Topics: Get Physical Tour
The Get Physical bus tour hasn’t even started yet, and already there’s a raging hangover in my head.
Last night, M.A.N.D.Y. and Heidi played at Beta nightclub in Denver, which was the last date before starting the final leg of their tour involving a tour bus, seven gigs in seven days, and Industry Boy blogging through it all.
Denver happens to be home to Beatport and it’s where I live, so last night I popped along to Beta to meet the Get Physical crew, to prepare for the bus tour which starts today in Boston.
“Hey man, what’s up,” Patrick Bodmer from M.A.N.D.Y. had shouted as he embraced me warmly.
He seemed genuinely pleased to meet me, like I was an old friend.
Behind him his fellow DJ partner Philipp Jung was dancing around like a buffoon, and behind him were a few hundred clubbers dancing their asses off to M.A.N.D.Y.’s twisted tech house and minimal music.
“Don’t worry about Sasha and Digweed, we’re gonna have a lot more fun this time,” Patrick had said, referring to Industry Boy’s previous tour blog which had been from the British DJs’ tour bus a couple of weeks ago.
Patrick jumped on the decks and dropped a chunky tech house cut but the mix was ever so-slightly out of time.
Philipp slapped his ass as if to say “sort it out mate”, which Patrick did immediately.
Philipp also later spanked Heidi’s ass playfully whilst she rocked her blonde curly locks from side to side wildly.
Clearly the three of them had a fun, easygoing relationship.
“They’re like my brothers,” Heidi said. I asked her what I should expect from joining the Get Physical crew on tour.
“Well so far, we’ve held it together, but for this last bit things might get a little crazy,” she said.
The Get Physical threesome certainly looked like they were having a hell of a lot fun: they smiled, they danced, they drank and made the DJ booth feel like it was a private house party.
They posed for photos, pulled silly faces for the cameras and partied like champions.
It felt like a giant disco ball was hanging over them cloaking them and everyone around them in a rainbow of energy.
The life force they radiated was infectious and affirming. It was exciting to be around them.
“Ok we take one little drink at an afterparty now,” said Philipp after their set had ended.
Industry Boy had pulled a less than enthusiastic face - my flight to Boston was leaving at 10am, and I wanted to get some sleep before the bus tour began, but Patrick slapped me on the back and said:
“What’s the matter, you have small balls?”
And so that’s how I ended up at Denver International Airport dazed and confused with a hangover - the Get Physical party bus already well on its way to becoming a rolling train wreck.
