The future of DJing?

The future of DJing?

Whilst some DJs still don’t have a clue how to use CD decks, let alone laptops with Ableton, some ubër nerds from Spain have invented a crazy new light-based musical instrument that could become the future of DJing.

The Reactable is a multi-user electronic musical instrument with a tabletop tangible user interface.

Several performers can simultaneously control instruments by moving physical objects on a luminous table surface.

And by moving the objects, and ‘relating’ them to other objects on the table, the user has the ability to create sounds like that of a classic modular synthesizer.

You can create wicked sounds simply by moving the objects around on the table, and if two or more objects ‘talk’ to each other the sound becomes more complex and layered.

The boffins who have invented the Reactable are based in the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.

The Reactable is expected to hit the shops in 2114.
