The Deep End

The Deep End

Curses! [Institubes]

Luca Venezia – aka NYC’s bassline champion Drop The Lime [a] – returns with a swagger to the Institubes stage behind his housier guise, Curses! [a], to offer a TWA (tune wiv attiude) that will smack you round the face and leave your sorry ass battered and bruised.

That’s a good thing, though. Forget all this softly-softly dance music that wouldn’t even offend your Grandma these days, ‘The Deep End’ sticks it to the man, middle finger up, jeans ripped, nipple pierced.

Ok, so it’s not the 1950s anymore, the man’s already had ‘it’ well and truly stuck to him, but isn’t it nice to dance on the dark side sometimes?

The cover art is as cool as it gets – a grotesque monster wades through what one can only assume is the Black Lagoon holding some naked blond chick with sacrificial intent, while malevolently glowing eyeballs cast their gaze from watery depths just to put the shit right up you.

This gothic sense of impending doom is compounded by some grandiose piano chords straight outta ‘Interview with a Vampire’, and a piercing guitar riff that no doubt Sergio Leone would have used had he set ‘Once Upon a Time’ in the West in hell…

Stick all that over an industrial-sized beat and you’ve got yourself a damn freaking (insert other Curses! here) badass tune.
