The Cup of Chi Files

‘Cup of Chi’ is the title of a string of releases at Chi Recordings [l], elegantly throwing in three tracks from three genres per record. With the first piece dating back to as far as 2001, the past eight years have earned the label a solid reputation and fans from all over the world.
Earlier this year Cup of Chi vol. 12 brought yet another careful mixture of beats, glitches, and just a bit of pepper. AMB [a]‘s “Rust” hammered the breakbeat floors, the Fine Cut Bodies [a] rework of Hungarian vocalist, Varga Zsuzsa [a]‘s “Be Infected” turned out to be infectious, and Kodek [a] sorted us out for the colder winter nights with his fine and melancholic downtempo.
The latest in the row is Cup of Chi vol 13., probably the most fitting package in a while. Modul (Mango) [a] kicks off with the driving tech-house “Acider” - a kind of free-jazz battle between a wobbling, ever-ruling bass-line, a catchy hook, and densely slurping textures. AMB [a] takes over with the energetic “Flagpole”, already slaying at 13. on Beatport’s Breakbeat Top100 and Cooler [a] concludes the package with “B’ala”, delivering an excellent musical blend of acoustic and synthesized sounds.
And again, the question is: Which one is your Cup of Chi?
