The Count & Sinden get ‘Mega Mega Mega’
23 August, 2010 | 8.01AMThe Count & Sinden have been making tunes—and mischief—together since 2006, and this week they finally drop their debut album, ‘Mega Mega Mega’.
With a title like that, you know immediately where they’re coming from: this British duo’s music is all about outsized proportions. Pulling together house, dubstep, breakbeats, techno, hip-hop, UK funky, electro, soca, dancehall, reggaeton, and just a smidgen of pure, sparkling pop, they squeeze it into a shape that’s practically bursting at the seams. Fusing rave aesthetics with electronic styles from all over the world, the Count & Sinden are a little like Basement Jaxx
—but with a dirtier, rawer edge. Guest vocals from Rye Rye, 77Klash, Katy B, Bashy, and the one and only Coolio Iglesias are perfectly matched to the duo’s grimy, high-octane beats.
From the cheeky Afropop disco of ‘After Dark’ (featuring the Mystery Jets) to the bleep electro of ‘Elephant 1234’ to the madcap funky of ‘Mega’ and ‘Hold Me’, there’s something here to suit DJs of many different stripes—providing they like it mental, mutinous, and, of course, mega.
Don’t miss the Count & Sinden’s brand new Mega Summer Chart, featuring mega monster jams from Herve
, the Martin Brothers, Rusko
, SBTRKT and Sinden, and more.
Listen to the album after the jump, and get a ‘Mega Mega Mega’ mega-mix (well, mini-mix) over at Domino’s SoundCloud page.
