The Chemical Brothers and Justice up for Grammys

Britain’s The Chemical Brothers and France’s Justice are set for a head-to-head battle at the 50th annual Grammy Awards in February 2008.

Both groups have nominations, for Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording.

The Chemical Brothers’ ‘Do It Again’ has been nominated in the best dance single category, whilst ‘D.A.N.C.E.’ is also in the runnings in both the best single and Best Short Form Video categories.

The two dance acts are up against some rather bizarre competition in the best dance single category - pop artist Mika has been nominated for his rather bland track ‘Love Today’, whilst awful cheesy pop wailer Rihanna has a shot with her pathetic ‘Don’t Stop The Music’ drivel [please stop the music, please].

Even Justin Timberlake has a shot at the Best Dance Recording for his r&b nonsense ‘LoveStoned / I Think She Knows’.

Another typical clueless bunch of so-called ‘music experts’ must have put the list together.

Best Electronic / Dance Album

At least the battle for Best Electronic / Dance Album is slightly more representative of the scene.

Dutch trance monolith DJ Tiësto has a chance with his ‘Elements of Life’ album [check it in the player below] and so too does LCD Soundsystem’s ‘Sound of Silver’.

“It has always been a dream for me to be nominated for a Grammy. I have been working on this album for over a year and therefore am very happy with the nomination,” said Tiësto of his Grammy chance.

“It’s a recognition for all the hard work!”

Justice’s ‘†’ album, and The Chemical Brothers’ ‘We Are The Night’ have also been nominated, leaving just one faux pas by the Grammy experts in the dance album category.

Shiny Toy Gun’s ‘We Are Pilots’ have a shot at Best Dance Album despite being a rock act (perhaps the Grammy organisers should have looked at the genre description that iTunes gives Shiny Toy Guns before they lumped them in the dance category).

Best Remixed Recording, Non Classical

Beatportal fave Carl Craig is up for an award in the Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical category for his version of Junior Boys ‘Like A Child’:

He however faces stiff competition from:

4. Eric Prydz (Pink Floyd ‘Positive Education’)

This is by no means the first time that mainstream music awards have totally misrepresented the electronic music world.

Famously, rubbish pop act the Sugarbabes won Best Dance Act at the Brit Awards in 2003 causing outrage for pretty much anybody who had ever been to a dance club.
