The Brainfreeze EP
The Brainfreeze EP
Lomax [Spearhead Records]
15 November, 2007 | 4.15PMIt appears that Lomax
has been drinking too much strawberry-flavoured Slush Puppy, judging by the title of his latest EP.
It does tend to get a bit sweaty in the average D&B studio and so who can blame him for drinking the frosty red stuff until he gets brain ache?
Well, Lomax has now released these tensions in the form of four tracks on his EP, and the title track is certainly a painful reflection.
I can feel his agony in the ‘Shadowboxing’-sampled kicks and snares.
Don’t be fooled by the airy Detroit pads, because when ‘Brain Freeze’ drops all you’re faced with is a never-ending procession of slushy bass, delayed Mentasms and reverse vocal reverbs.
You can almost feel the cold resonating from its atmosphere – we like this!
Whilst ‘Blades Of Steel’ is a continuation of the former track, Beatport aficionados will particularly like ‘Avenue’.
It might not be revolutionary, but it sounds like it’s by Calibre and that’s a good thing!
We know producers don’t appreciate being compared to others some of the time, but if you want a quick summary of ‘Avenue’ this description will be beneficial to you.
The twinkly piano really is the deal breaker.
