The Biggest Club Tracks of 2007?

This time of the year sees a flood of Best of DJ charts, but we thought we’d compile a Biggest Tracks of 2007 chart.

Now this isn’t based on what we think is cool, or innovative, or forward thinking or sexy; but rather it’s about how successful each track was on the global dancefloors.

Every single one of the tracks listed in our chart was played thoughout clubland this year.

Crammed full of major club hits, this is what Beatportal thinks, were the biggest (not best) tracks of 2007.

The Biggest Club Tracks 2007

[Note: We didn’t put these in any order because that would be too difficult, so instead these are listed alphabetically by artist name]

1. Armand Van Helden ‘Playmate’ (Jesse Rose Remix) (Southern Fried)

Jesse Rose’s fidget house remix of old skool house hero Armand Van Helden’s ‘Playmate’ ripped up the more commercial dancefloors due to its great blend of girl-friendly vocals and dirty electro grit. Huge.

2. Axwell ‘I Found U’ (Remode Mix) (Axtone Records)

Axwell had a massive year with a string of radio-friendly club hits including ‘It’s True’ and this piano house driven wonder ‘I Found U’. It was an instant anthem.

3. Deadmau5 ‘Faxing Berlin’ (Mau5trap)

Deadmau5 is one of the most successful artists on Beatport despite having little to no press. There’s no hype with this Canadian wonderkid, but his tracks are hits with DJs around the globe. ‘Faxing Berlin’ is one of his finest moments. Pure ecstasy.

4. Dubfire ‘Roadkill’ (SCI + TEC Digital Audio)

Dubfire has had a phenomenal year. First he took over the dirty electro house sound with ‘Roadkill’. Now he’s best buddies with Richie Hawtin and building a name for himself in the techno sphere. Reinvention is an understatement.

5. Ida Corr ‘Let Me Think About It’ (Fedde Le Grand Club Mix) (Kontor)

Dutch house hero Fedde Le Grand came knocking down the charts once again this year, this time with a remix of Ida Corr’s ‘Let Me Think About It’. Solid electro house beats and a phat bassline.

6. Gui Boratto ‘Beautiful Life’ (Kompakt)

Brazilian’s master of minimal trance came crashing into electronic music in 2007 with a wonderfully polished album on Kompakt. ‘Beautiful Life’ is pure pop magic, and the highlight of ‘Chromophobia’.

7. Larry Heard, Mr White ‘The Sun Can’t Compare’ (Alleviated Records)

Underground, overground, wombling free, ‘The Sun Can’t Compare’ had a classic electronic music ride to the top. It first cropped up in the sets of Luciano, Craig Richards and Villalobos over 12 months ago, before enjoying a lengthy stint at the top of everyone DJ’s most wanted list. Hard to find, the record finally made it out digitally in October. The most beautiful vocal house record of 2007? We think so.

8. Olivier Giacomotto ‘Gail In The O’ (John Acquiviva & Damon Jee Remix)

John Acquiviva & Damon Jee’s remix of ‘Gail In The O’ is a slamming electro house cut. Perfectly produced, it destroyed dancefloors from here to Timbuktu.

9. Samim ‘Heater’ (Get Physical)

The track that divided clubbers in 2007 was ‘Heater’, the accordian-sampling tech house wonder from Samim. Fusing weird instruments with techno beats was always going to raise eyebrows. And we here at Beatportal raise our glasses to Samim for having the balls to do something totally fun in techno.

10. Snax ‘Honeymoon’s Over’ (Konrad Black Mix) (TNT)

“That Prince remix is amazing,” was one message posted on a forum about Konrad Black’s remix of Snax ‘Honeymoon’s Over’. It ain’t Prince, but it’s got the same funk and panache as the artist formerly known as that dude who keeps changing his name. Sexy minimal at its best.
