The Acrobat
Sascha Funke [Bpitch Control]

EP is always a highlight of Bpitch’s release schedule, with his sharp, playful sound proving time and time again that Euro-minimal techno can have plenty of character when done properly.
His more recent releases have seen him lean towards a harder, more stripped sound than ever before, and with a new album promised soon, Funke fans will be wondering what direction he’s decided to go in.
‘The Acrobat’ continues his recent trend for tougher, trackier vibes, featuring raw claps, an unsettling alarm-like riff, and a generally slap-happy feel.
Not a million miles away from Heartthrob’s ‘Baby Kate’ (for which Sascha Funke provided arguably the best remix), the track’s rigid percussive structure and elastic synths will fit as happily in the bleak boxes of Minus fans as it will those who prefer to enjoy a touch of pop sheen to their beats.
Dial’s Edfemin remixes it into a wide-screen anthem on the flip, detouring via Detroit and New York before ending up in the sunshine of a Berlin autumn morning.
Densely produced but light in touch, it’s another excellent offering from a producer who is really leading the charge when it comes to deep, intelligently-crafted techno.
Predictably ace stuff all round from two major talents.
