The 50 most charted tracks of October
11 November, 2009 | 5.07AMWhilst sales charts give some indication as to what is currently hot in electronic music, which tracks DJs are charting is also useful to see upcoming trends.
Beatport receives thousands of DJ charts a month from some of the most respected DJs in the world, and when you collate all that data, patterns begin to emerge. It differs from the Top 100 sales charts.
The reasons for this are unclear, but there are a number of explanations as to why the Top 50 most charted tracks might be different to the Top 50 most bought. DJs generally chart tracks that they are feeling or inspired by. This can be different to what they are playing in their sets. Sometimes a DJ might chart a track that they haven’t played yet, or have no intention of playing.
Whatever the reasons, the 50 most charted tracks of October looks and sounds like this.
October 2009
Saeed Younan’s big room tribal house cut on Viva ‘Backroom Honey’ was the most charted track of October 2009 - tribal house seems to be making a comeback, and it’ll be interesting to see how that genre develops in the coming months.
Disco influences are everywhere these days. Even underground techno producers like Deetron are flirting with disco loops (’Orange’), and some are even constructing modern disco smashes like Joris Voorn’s ‘Chase The Mouse’ (released in September, it was still the 6th most charted track in October).
Speaking of Joris Voorn, he seems to be having a magnificent year as his remix of Dosem ‘Beach Kisses’ has started creeping back into DJ charts again (it was the 8th most charted track of October). Originally released in August, Voorn’s remix might be one of the ‘growers’ of the year.
Classic house sounds are still in abundance - both the Starkillers remix of Armand Van Helden ‘Funk Phenomena’ and ATFC ‘I Called You’ charted high in October - and loop-based percussive tech house is still burgeoning, with Super Flu’s remix of Marcus Meinhardt ‘Mad Max’ having reached No.5 in the most charted.
