Ten weeks of silence for Minus

2008 marks the ten year anniversary for Richie Hawtin’s groundbreaking record label, Minus.

And to celebrate, the label takes a look back with an extended break of silence for ten weeks — one week for each year.

The now Berlln-based label originating in Windsor, Ontario, Canada started out of what was then the ashes of Plus 8 records, when Hawtin and Plus 8 co-founder John Acquaviva decided to refresh their approach to their music.

Minus, originally started as an outlet to release Hawtin’s own cuts, took off in a slow and guided but steady fashion, and gradually expanded to include releases from other artists, including Theorem, Niederflur, I.A. Bericochea, Run Stop Restore (with members and current prominent Minus representatives Marc Houle, Magda and Troy Pierce), Matthew Dear’s False project, Heartthrob, Loco Dice and many more artists who continue with the label today.

The growth of Minus also spurred the restart of Plus 8 in the process, which continues to release music today.

In a reflective release on the Minus website written by Richie Hawtin himself, he promises ten events in late March 2008 in various locations throughout the world to celebrate the Minus benchmark.

Lest you dare break the Minus code of silence, take a listen to the player of Minus music below.
